Who are Cubs?
Cubs are young people aged 8 to 10½ who:
- Master new skills and try new things
- Have fun and go on adventures
- Make friends
- Are curious about the world around them
- Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond
Every week, they gather in groups called Cub Packs to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way.
Promise
After attending meetings for a few weeks, members will make their promise as part of an investiture ceremony.
Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We have different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.
More information about the variations of the Cub Scout Promise can be found here.
Law
Cub Scouts always do their best
think of others before themselves
and do a good turn every day
What Cubs Wear
Cub uniform consists of:
- a green Cubs polo shirt or 1st Aldbourne Scout Group t-shirt
- a green sweatshirt with badges sewn on
- a coloured scarf or 'necker’ to represent 1st Aldbourne (Dabchick) Scout Group (if you don't already have a necker from Beavers, you will receive your necker when you are invested)
- for formal occasions, like the annual Remembrance Parade, you will be asked to wear black shoes/trainers and grey or black school range type trousers.
We don’t want anyone to miss out through financial hardship. If concerns about finances may prevent your child taking part in Scouting or some activities, speak to your local leader, as some assistance may be available in confidence.

Badges
Cub Scouts can earn a range of Challenge Awards and Activity Badges. You can find all the badges available below. Click on a badge image to see the badge's requirements. The top award in Cub Scouts is the Chief Scout Silver award, which is awarded where a Cub has earned six Activity or Staged Activity Badges of their choice, as well as all seven of the Challenge Awards.
You can help your Cub to keep track of their progress with earning their badges by looking at their badge record on OSM.
